Zone Expérimentale
Contemporary Music Basel
Zone Expérimentale is not a classic ensemble, but a space of discovery for the players, as well as for the audience. The focus is on the discovery of different and varying aesthetical fields of contemporary musical expression, but also of the art of the fathers and mothers of today's music. Chamber music programs change with installative work or improvisational perspectives. Programs of the group contain from solo pieces to ensemble pieces.

PARALLEL PROGRAMS
ELECTROACOUSTIC WORKSHOP
Sound in Nature – Sound in Space
The 2018 Delian Academy electroacoustic workshop will explore sound in nature and space, and how these elements can be creatively expressed in both fixed media and mixed (instrument/electronics) composition. Participants will investigate the varied and beautiful soundscape environments on Mykonos and surrounding islands, capturing its sounds and sceneries through field recording activities. We will also engage with sound environments through Deep Listening exercises, including soundwalks and sound improvisations. Other discussion topics will include electroacoustic techniques, critical listening, sound in space, and electroacoustic literature.
EXPERIMENTAL COLLABORATION
This program focuses on the praxis of collaboration in experimental music and is intended for artists who wish to propose a displacement in the fieldwork practice. During your stay in Mykonos you will collaborate with our specialized guest artists on the creation and presentation of a new project which may include theater, improvisation, video or any element from other artistic fields. You will have an open space to experiment, rehearse and reflect on your practice. You are also welcome to use the Academy's facilities and equipment. All projects will be presented and recorded in a special performance. Priority for participation will be given to Visiting Composers and Electronic Composers/Sound Artists.

HALF DAY TRIP AND FIELD RECORDING IN DELOS
A half-day trip, to the sacred island of Apollo and Artemis, a famous religious and political center in Antiquity. The whole territory of the deserted Delos is one of the most important archaeological sites of the eastern Mediterranean protected by Unesco as one of the Unesco heritage sites of the world. All participants will have the chance to record the unique soundscape of the island and use the material for their new works. If possible, please bring your microphones and/or other recording devices. A limited number of microphones will be available.
