ENSEMBLES IN RESIDENCE

Ensemble-Recherche-pos.png

Ensemble Recherche has been dedicated to the new and unknown since 1985. From the time of its creation nearly four decades ago, the Freiburg-based ensemble has been shaping contemporary music and writing musical history, premiering more than 600 works and producing more than 50 CD recordings to date. The eight performer-members—all internationally renowned soloists—share a passion for experimentation, placing their exceptional musicality and creativity at the service of the ensemble and its collective research of the musical present.

The ensemble is deeply committed to the future of contemporary music, seeking to pass on its spirit of research and curiostiy to the next generation through its pedagogical and outreach activities, such as school workshops, concerts for children, participative youth projects, and master classes. Through the long-running ‘Class Work’ project, the ensemble has worked with students of composition at conservatories and universities in Boston, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Linz, Freiburg, Antwerp, Reykjavik and Cambridge, among others. At the same time, long-term professional relationships with important composers of the 20th century (such as Helmut Lachenmann, Wolfgang Rihm, Salvatore Sciarrino, Gérard Grisey, Hans Abrahamsen and Hans Werner Henze) have ensured that the ensemble members are also experts in the historical performance practice of the music of the last century.

Reactive Ensemble

Reactive Ensemble is an advanced music technology performance group, a virtual ensemble focused in the realization of art in dialogue with new technologies. Its main purpose is to provide the technological support for the creation, implementation and performance of demanding musical and audiovisual works.

The ensemble is constituted by a network of soft- & hardware that allows fully interaction between humans and machines. It is assisted by artists devoted to technology, generating the perfect symbiosis to solve technical problems in an artistic context.  The ensemble also studies and realizes various electro acoustic repertoire as well as original compositions; participants of the ensemble compose and perform computerized, computer assisted, and electro-acoustic music.

VENUE

The Cultural Foundation of Tinos was established as a private benefit institution in 2002 by the Sacred Foundation of the Church of the Annunciation, and is supported by the same institution. Its purpose is to promote research and study and to advance the awareness of the art, history, culture and tradition indigenous to the island of Tinos. Housed in a beautiful and recently refurbished neoclassic building at the water’s edge of the quaint harbor town of Tinos, the Foundation provides an ideal venue for cultural and scientific conferences, art exhibitions and a variety of other events.

The building was originally constructed in 1925 and was renovated in 2001. The large exhibition hall of the Cultural Foundation of Tinos was inaugurated in September of the same year with the very significant art exhibition of the celebrated Tinian artist, Nicolaos Gizis, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his death. This event signaled the beginning of the Foundations’ successful course.
